Definition of Maintenance Management

Maintenance management is an important component of a well-functioning production. It helps companies maintain their resources while controlling time and costs to ensure maximum efficiency of the manufacturing process, the utilities and related facilities. It is a tool that helps to secure a reliable and satisfactory quality of the production, safety for employees and protection for the environment. Maintenance management is also referred to as CMMS, which stands for Computerised Maintenance Management System.

Importance of Management

Maintenance is an important factor in quality assurance and in some cases determines the long-term success of a company. Poorly maintained resources can cause instability and partially or completely pause the production. Malfunctioning machines or complete breakdowns can become a costly process for most companies.

When breakdowns occur, the labor cost per unit rises as time passes until the machines again run as normal. In this event, there will be unexpected expenses to repair the problems, which includes extra costs for repair facilities, technician/repair crew, preventive maintenance inspections and spare parts. These are some examples of what a company can expect to deal with over time if a reliable maintenance management solution is not installed – even for companies with new machines in their production.

Objectives of Maintenance Management

While there are many different software programs that can assist with maintaining a healthy manufacturing process, the common objective of all maintenance management programs are to analyse the production and seek the best practices within the specific field. Through thorough analyses and accurate reports, the goal is to control costs, schedule work properly and efficiently, and to ensure that the company complies with all rules and regulations while preventing failures and keeping breakdowns to a minimum.

Solutions Aptean Can Provide for Your Company

Aptean can provide effective and reliable Enterprise Asset Management solution (EAM) along with an Overall Equipment Effectiveness solution (OEE), which ensures that your company gets the most out of the resources available to you. EAM, similar to a CMMS, is the process of managing the lifecycle of physical assets to maximise their use, save money, improve quality and efficiency, along with safeguard health, safety and the environment. Aptean’s EAM API PRO Edition is a solution designed to meet the requirements of manufacturing companies operating in an Industry 4.0 reality. It is the optimal system for ensuring an efficient and digitalised maintenance process, while delivering consistent product quality and a minimum of down-time through a wide range of built-in features and functionalities, enabling an effective maintenance process. OEE measures various sub components of the manufacturing process such as availability, performance and quality. Aptean’s Industrial Manufacturing OEE provides you with the full picture of your production effectiveness, and to help you identify the sources of loss as well as potential for improvements. It has a strong focus on production monitoring and optimisation, which enables you to locate bottlenecks in the manufacturing process, check asset availability and establish OEE value per machine, part or order as well as to find common causes of down-time, through integrating real-time production information into your present and future digital manufacturing environment.
